TMJ & Cranial Adjusting
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) is a condition that affects the jaw joint and surrounding muscles, causing pain and discomfort. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts as a hinge connecting the jawbone to the skull, allowing for the movement necessary for talking, chewing, and yawning. When this joint is not functioning properly, individuals may experience a range of symptoms such as jaw pain, clicking or popping noises, difficulty opening or closing the mouth, headaches, and facial muscle fatigue. TMJD can be caused by various factors including teeth grinding, jaw clenching, arthritis, or an injury to the jaw.
Dr. Welham has focused her post-graduate training on TMJD and cranial adjusting and can offer treatment options and pain management techniques. Using an intuitive and spiritual approach to chiropractic care, Dr. Welham believes that shifting the home of the jaw allows your body to adjust its muscles and ligaments naturally. Over time, the jaw will be trained to stay in its natural position and the muscles and ligaments will follow.
